It's a move/play by the entity to stop the timeline from getting all fucky. Tldr This timelines gurus and janus were still teleported to keep everything consistent except for the changes that are beneficial to lavos's destruction. It's just some part of a random playthrough, first vid I found. I remember a line he says reinforces what I said.Īctually, found one. The elder walks in and debriefs the party. Where your party wakes up in the last village hut. If you have the chance, check out the cutscene right after the ocean palace/zeal destruction. My bet would be the ocean palace teleports were the entities doing, and the magus keep one was either lavos or the entity. Though, we do see another forced gate at magus's keep, which yet again implies that was lavos's doing, so idk. But, during the campfire scene, the party tells us that it's more likely some entity was responsible for all the gates throughout the game, and not lavos. Yes, the game does make it seem like lavos is the one who ported them. It would be a way to save some important people in the fight against lavos from their demise.Īnd this is an assumption. This theory would only makes sense if it was actually the entity who displaced them, and not lavos. So as a way for the timeline to "fix" itself, they were sucked into the portals to their respective eras regardless, wherever they might have been at the moment. My guess as to the way it happened is that in the new timeline, unlike the previous one, Janus and the gurus simply weren't there when it happened. And the game only gives you 1 or 2 throwaway lines to explain it. This is a very common question, actually. Magus appears to have undone his own history, so Janus needs to be sent to the Middle Ages or Magus will vanish. They cannot be dead, as they would cease to exist in the other timelines. So where are Gaspar, Balthasar and Janus? We find Janus' kitten with the earthbound ones, but no Janus. Crono dies, Zeal is destroyed, and the end game begins. Crono confronts the Queen, and this time Janus, Gaspar and Balthasar are not present. Janus is around, and predicts that one of the members of the group will die which is NOT historical information but an actual prophecy. Melchior is imprisoned on the Island of Woe, but Gaspar and Balthasar are nowhere to be found. However, this time around the Gurus are not present, and Magus has taken their place as the Queen's advisor. Antiquity: Crono confronts the Queen of Zeal.(Incidentally, we know that Magus' scheme to defeat Lavos by posing as a Prophet is doomed to failure, because returning him to Antiquity does not immediately change the Future.) Middle Ages: Crono and Frog interfere in Magus' ritual, sending themselves to the Stone Age and returning Magus to Antiquity. Modern Day: The Milennial fair- the game begins.Magus attempts to summon Lavos, and presumably fails and dies if he had succeeded, here or in the past, the events of the game could not happen. Middle Ages: Janus grows up and becomes Magus.Antiquity: The Queen of Zeal builds the Mammon Machine, summons Lavos, and sends Janus to the Middle Ages, Melchior to the Modern day, Balthasar to the Future, and Gaspar to the end of time.Stone Age: Lavos crashes into the earth. Here is the sequence of events, as I understand them.
